Beth > After much deliberation, Gabrielle bought a loft bed . . . look how much fun she's having up there! Our apartment is slowly coming together . . .

Beth > In the beginning of October, I traveled to Mississippi to serve as the student rabbi for Temple B'nai Sholom in Brookhaven Mississippi. I spent the High Holidays leading services for this tiny congregation. Notice that it looks suspiciously like a Baptist church . . . it's hard to find an architect who specializes in synagogues when you're in Mississippi!

Beth > The inside of the synagogue, view from the bimah. The people in the photo are Steve Liverman, the president of the tiny congregation and my host for my two weeks in Mississippi, his wife Sandra, and their nephew Nathan.

Beth > The whole synagogue had pretty stained glass windows - here's the fanciest, above the choir loft.

Beth > Steve let me borrow his car while I was down South, so I drove around Mississippi in high Volvo style.

Beth > After Rosh HaShanah, I drove to Utica, Mississippi, where the Reform Jewish Movement is running a distribution center for food and household items for Hurricane Katrina victims.

Beth > The Henry Jacobs Camp, the Reform Movement's summer camp in Utica, Mississippi, where we stayed while we were volunteering. The distribution center originally came about because the camp was housing evacuees after the hurricane, and Reform congregations started sending supplies there. After the evacuees were moved to more permanent housing, they decided to use a local warehouse as a distribution center.

Beth > Synagogues across the country send out supplies, and the trucks arrive at our warehouse.
