Beth > This is the room in Beit Shmuel, the youth hostel attached to HUC, where Katie Bauman and I lived for our first month in Israel.
Beth > Halfway through the month, Lydia moved in with us! The lower bunk was taken up by all of our suitcases, so Lydia added hers to the pile and slept on the top bunk.
Beth > Rachel Timoner, the other Yalie in my HUC class, had a birthday party for her son Benjamin when he turned 2 over the summer.
Beth > The party was in Jerusalem's Liberty Bell Park. We had balloons, guitars, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, and even a big mural that we made for Benjamin's room.
Beth > Rachael Friedman was in charge of face-painting.
Beth > Katie led a song session.
Beth > Everybody sang - Katie knows all the good songs.
Beth > The wipers on the bus go "swish swish swish" . . .
Beth > Lydia takes a turn with the guitar.
